Breaking: Malawi court releases Prophet Bushiri

Lilongwe – Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and Prophetess Mary Bushiri have been unconditionally released by a Malawi court this afternoon after handing themselves over to police in Area 30, Lilongwe, Malawi yesterday.

Magistrate Nyimba, sitting in Lilongwe Magistrates court ordered the immediate release of the leaders of Enlightened Christian Gathering Church.

The court added that Prophet Bushiri and Prophetess Mary Bushiri’s arrests were illegal and they must be unconditionally released. The ruling added that, should they be required to appear in court, the state must proceed by way of summons.

Speaking to ECG News Online, head of legal services Terrance Baloyi told this publication that, “my colleagues have told me that there are worries that the arrest by South Africa itself may have been unlawful”.

Prophet Bushiri and Prophetess Mary escaped to Malawi to preserve their lives after credible attempts to kill them in South Africa.

The duo will remain in Lilongwe while fighting for their justice.

Speaking after his release, Prophet Bushiri could his recent court victory, “A victory for God”.

“This is not a victory for me. It is not a victory for my lawyers. It is not a victory for the church, it is a victory for God.”

Prophet Bushiri thanked the thousands of people from all over the world and Malawians who throned the court in numbers to support him.
