The Heavy Burden

I remember one day when I was eleven years old, my biological mother sent me to grab a few things from a nearby supermarket. I ran inside and picked up one of the baskets.

As I placed different items into the basket, I began to notice it getting heavier. I did not, however, stop shopping because the items that were on the shopping list my mother gave me were not yet in the basket. I then picked up a large bottle of milk and as I glanced at the basket, I asked myself, "How am I going to carry this heavy load?”

As I was busy pondering on this, a very friendly woman walked up to me and said, “You know child, you don't have to carry that basket like that.” I didn't understand what she was saying until she walked over, pulled a lever from the side of my basket and suddenly transformed it into something that rolled on the floor! I laughed and thanked her for showing me a better way to complete my task. I began to run around the shop because the load was so much lighter than I had anticipated, even the shopping became more interesting!

So many of us are walking through life carrying heavy loads, but God never intended for us to take on so much. You will find that, in life, just when we figure out how to carry one burden, another one is added on top of it. We think to ourselves, "Lord, how am I going to bear all of these heavy loads?" But allow me to encourage you today. Whatever it may be that is burdening you, God will do for you, through Christ.

The same thing that kind woman did for me in that grocery store—God will also show you a better way. Let Him lift every burden that is weighing you down and give you His wisdom and instructions that are light. Allow Jesus the opportunity to step in, transform your life and show you a better way to live today!

Consider Matthew 11:28-30 King James Version (KJV)

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
